ARRL Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) 2006

Jamboree on the Air is an opportunity for Girl and Boy Scouts and Guide to speak to each other through Amateur radio. The ARRL has information about it at http://www.arrl.org/FandES/ead/jota.html/.

Occasionally a request may come from a council down or a troop asking for a HAM or Club to help. This is rare. A HAM however can avail themselves to a Council or down to a troop to "create" a place for Scouts to take part in JOTA. This can be a club station, a ham's home, backyard, a church or meeting place, or going to a camporee that weekend--anywhere scouts can come and operate.

This is a good time to recruit young people by speaking with their parents about what a positive activity amateur radio is. It gives the young person an opportunity to be involved in an activity while learning about electronics, math, science, geography, public service and making lifelong friends. Many engineers, scientists, journalists, communicators, and public servants (quite possibly you yourself) got their start in this area because they became interested through what they learned in amateur radio.

To contact your local troop, you may contact the council near you, or contact a school, community center, or place of worship where you are personally involved.
