Getting Started in Amateur Radio

Amateur Radio Clubs

There is a wealth of information available online for people who want to get started in Amateur Radio. A good starting place is to visit your local Amateur Radio Club and meet some local Radio Amateurs. Find yourself an "Elmer" (the amateur radio term for a ham radio mentor) or a class schedule at the club. Also learn about opportunities to to take the exam locally.   1. Visit the Licensing, Preparation & Exams Section of the National ARRL Website
  2. Sample tests are online at the AA9PW FCC Exam Practice. There is a Java Applet that generates tests and will either grade them as you go or grade them at the end.
